The Venetians also promised to visit this place every year on the third Sunday of July and that is what since 1576 still happens today. During the festival you can enjoy spectacular fireworks above the waters of the lagoon of Venice. You can also watch the hundreds of nicely decorated boats gathering in the St. Marks Basin. Regatta Storica

The Regatta Storica is a typical Venetian event on the first Sunday of September. This event was initiated in the 13th century. When a foreign prince came to visit the city for the election of the new doge or pope, Giovanni Soranzo wanted to impress him with the wealth and prosperity of the city by organizing a water parade. This parade still takes place at the Grand Canal. Most of the islands of Venice have their own regatta, but this regatta is without a doubt the biggest and most important.
